Review of Desistfilm by Stan Brakhage

I'm making my way through Criterion's By Brakhage collection that I found at the library and thought this one frame of Desistfilm, one of Brakhage's early films, where a guy is literally picking his navel, encapsulates the general perception of "art film."

This one of a guy leering from a weird angle at a couple in an intimate moment in many ways encapsulates what Stan Brakhage's art films are about, though those intimate moments are usually more of the metaphysically intimate, a peering-up-the-skirt-of-the-cosmic-order kind of intimacy.
