songs and maybe an umbrella

Daniel Johnston - At Home Live (listen) That dream I had has put me markedly in a Daniel Johnston frame of mind. Since the intense listening I gave him for the Oxford American piece I did on him in 2007, he's been off my general rotation. This album of home recordings, to which I gave kind of a pass to in March, tightens the rope stretching between Daniel now, worn and ragged, and the eager, confused Daniel of his first tapes, recorded in his parents' basement and handed out to pretty girls on the street, with Daniel forever precariously balanced up there on that line with his songs and maybe an umbrella, equally a circus oddity and poised showman.
